Tapestry 360 Health - HAES Model

At Tapestry 360 Health, we believe that healthcare is not just a service but a promise—to create a welcoming space where every individual feels seen, heard, and respected. Our approach goes beyond treating symptoms; it’s about fostering trust, equity, and empowerment. By prioritizing care, we’ve emerged as trailblazers among Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs), setting new standards for what healthcare can and should be.

Pioneering Health at Every Size Care: A National Model

Recognizing that traditional healthcare often stigmatized individuals based on weight, we embraced a revolutionary approach: Health at Every Size. At Tapestry 360 Health, we celebrate natural body diversity and focus on holistic well-being. By addressing root causes—like stress, nutrition, and community—we aim to reduce stigma and improve health outcomes for all. In 2021, we formed a dedicated committee to lead these efforts. Our goals are twofold: to make tangible changes that enhance every patient’s experience (such as ensuring appropriately sized blood pressure cuffs at every site) and to match patients with providers who are trained in the Health at Every Size (HAES) model. Our commitment to HAES care goes beyond policy—it’s about creating cultural change. Staff across all roles participate in learning collaboratives, where they explore their relationships with food and body image and gain practical tools to support patients. One provider shared:

“I appreciated training on size-inclusive care, especially the evidence that dispels preconceived notions. A simple shift—acknowledging patients as experts on their own bodies—can lead to meaningful discussions and trust.” The provider went on to share a conversation they had with a patient about weight and how they were able to shift their thinking. “I had the opportunity on a phone triage to talk with a patient who was insistent on adding medication for weight loss. Rather than questioning his request, I simply asked him, -tell me why you want to lose weight? How do you feel now that you lost this much weight? It led to a discussion about Integrative care and the pleasure of eating. Such a small shift in some ways but with a huge impact. He was open to the discussion and appreciated being listened to. Also got his mind off the medication, even for a moment!”

Tapestry 360 Health - HAES ModelPatients, too, have experienced profound transformations. Our Cooking and Nutrition for Joy group has become a haven for individuals navigating disordered eating or weight stigma. One participant shared:

“When I joined, I was struggling with body image and disordered eating. The education and community helped me rethink my relationship with food and focus on my well-being.”

The impact has been far-reaching. We’ve welcomed new patients, partnered with respected organizations like Rush, Centro Romero and Howard Brown, and hosted 17 workshops to spread the word about size-inclusive care. The momentum even attracted a new provider to join our team, inspired by our groundbreaking work.

By addressing weight stigma, we are redefining healthcare delivery. We hope our innovative practices will spark change across the FQHC landscape. Together, we’re building a future where every individual is celebrated and empowered to live their healthiest life.
