What is Medicaid Redetermination?

Medicaid redetermination (also called renewal) is the process used to make sure you still qualify for Medicaid benefits. Illinois reviews Medicaid eligibility on a regular basis.

When it is your time to renew, you may receive a notice asking you:

  • Review your information
  • Update any changes
  • Submit documents
  • Confirm that your information is correct
  • Complete a renewal form

Even if nothing has changed, you may still need to complete the renewal process in order to maintain your benefits.

Why This Matters

If you do not complete your renewal on time:

  • Your Medicaid coverage may end
  • You could lose access to healthcare services
  • You may lose prescription drug coverage
  • You could experience gaps in medical care

Do not ignore renewal notices.

Remember

  • You must renew when requested.

  • Watch for notices from Illinois Medicaid (through mail or email).

  • Respond by the deadline listed on your notice.

  • Even if your information has not changed, you still need to review renewal requests when asked.
