My approach to care has been with a harm reduction philosophy of care model… I come at it with a “let’s figure this out” attitude and help people be active members in finding shared solutions to their care.

Kristin Allen is a board-certified family nurse practitioner who received her Family Nurse Practitioner degree from DePaul University School of Nursing in 2015. She joined Tapestry 360 Health earlier this year.

Q. What brought you to Tapestry 360 Health?

A. I have always been drawn to federally qualified health centers’ mission to provide affordable and attainable care to all. A colleague who joined gave glowing reviews about Tapestry 360 Health’ dedication to finding individuals who truly uphold the mission to provide quality, affordable healthcare to underserved communities and tailoring care to meet patients where they are.

Q. What’s an important guidepost for you in your approach to providing healthcare?

A. My approach to care has been with a harm reduction philosophy of care model, which has allowed me to connect with some of the most challenging patients. I come at it with a “let’s figure this out” attitude and help people be active members in their care to find a shared solution to whatever their healthcare challenge may be.

Q. Do you have a specialty or a type of care that you particularly enjoy?

A. My focus has been helping to connect individuals experiencing homelessness and those with substance use disorder with a primary care home and utilizing resources to build wraparound services.

Q. What’s one health tip you often share with your patients?

A. Never go to excess, but let moderation be your guide. Setting unrealistic goals can be discouraging—but setting realistic goals helps us attain our potential.
