Dental sealants can prevent cavities for many years
Dental sealants can prevent cavities!
Regular dental cleanings help remove built up tartar (old plaque) and protect your teeth. Routinely, after a cleaning, patients will receive a fluoride varnish or treatment. This helps strengthen and fortify tooth enamel.
Plaque is formed when bacteria in your mouth produce acids that collect on your teeth. Plaque can cause tooth decay, or cavities. Your back teeth, the molars, are especially susceptible to cavities.
We use dental sealants to help prevent cavities. Dental sealants are coatings painted on the chewing surfaces of your molars. They protect your molars from cavities with a shield that blocks out germs and food.
According to the CDC, sealants protect against 80% of cavities for two years, then continue to protect against 50% of cavities for up to four years.
